Disaster Relief

Foundation efforts to help with the aftermath of disasters.

Life for Haiti Foundation provides assistance following all disasters in Haiti. Disaster relief often requires both short- and long-term efforts. Our mitigation efforts consist of limiting harm to Haitians by relocating people, re-enforcing existing buildings and structures, and minimizing flooding. Our immediate post-disaster needs include medical care, temporary shelter, and supplies (such as food, medicine, bedding, and so on). Our longer term relief can range from rebuilding (churches, schools, or housing) to reconnecting displaced families and re-establishing safe, sanitary conditions.

Hurricane Matthew 2016

Haiti suffered its worst humanitarian crisis since the 2010 earthquake when Hurricane Matthew made landfall on October 4, 2016. The Category 4 storm impacted an estimated 1.4 million people with its strong winds and rain bringing death, flooding, and destruction of more than 200,000 homes. Approximately 90 percent of the southern part of the country was destroyed.

2010 Earthquake

By request of Rev. Jean Claude Sylvain, a medical team led by Jean Sylvain came to Haiti to help treat patients effected and displaced by the earthquake. They brought food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter.
